James Dean Memorial

The junction of Highways 41 and 46 are memorialized as “James Dean Memorial Junction.”

On Friday, September 30, around six o’clock, Elizabeth (Taylor), Rock (Hudson) and I and a small group were watching rushes. George Stevens was behind us at his desk by the controls. The projection room was dark. The phone rang. The soundtrack screamed to a halt. The picture froze. The lights shot up. We turned and looked at George. The phone dangled from his hand. He was white and motionless. Death was present in that room. Slowly and with great effort, his voice coming from a long and distant tunnel, George said, “There’s been a car crash. Jimmy Dean has been killed. ” I went numb.–Carroll Baker, costar with James Dean in Giant.

Fat Robert Gets New Pipes

When I got Fat Robert he he had Thunder Header. A great sounding pipe, but just too loud. Yesterday, the Thunder Header came off and and a set of Vance and Hines Big Radius 2 into 1′s went on. Not as quiet as stock, but much quieter, say by half. Next, to complete the project, a Power Commander and dyno tuning.

My pipes! What happened to my pipes?

That's better.

FXDF Dyna Fat Bob with Vance and Hines Big Radius 2 into 1

Thanks to Nathan for helping with the installation which was not too difficult, but had a few hitches that one person alone would have had a hell of a time resolving.

Mt. Shasta was beautiful yesterday as we came home south on I-5. It is often shrouded in clouds obscuring the peak, but yesterday it wore a necklace of clouds against a bright blue sky enhancing it’s beauty.

The Farmer’s Market is in Downtown Portland in the park at Portland State University. It is quite a collection of fruits, nuts, vegetables, baked goods and prepared food. It is a lot like 1970 only better. The Vietnam war is over and there is no draft.
