Meet the Woodface. This piece of wood is on Main Street in Mendocino CA. Was it carved to look like a face? Maybe it already looked that way. It is hard to tell. Whoever added the driftwood hat brim certainly enhanced the effect.

Here are photos from the USS Midway Museum, located in San Diego Harbor. It is a worthwhile tour for anyone interested in Navy warships and military aircraft. The museum has a self guided audio tour. The headset/player is included in the price of admission. The Docents are mostly retired military men who served during Vietnam and some from Gulf War 1. Click thumbnails to enlarge.

Mission San Diego De Alcala is an interesting part of California’s history. If you visit, bring your camera. There are photo opportunities everywhere.

San Diego de Alcala, the first of the great California Missions, marks the birthplace of Christianity in the far West. It is California’s first church. This remarkable and significant historical shrine provides an understanding and appreciation of the beginning of Catholicism in this corner of the world, so remote from the Mother Country of Spain and yet so similar. More here at the Mission’s Website.
